Privacy Policy

This policy explains what personal information New Zealand Curated collects when you use this website, why it is collected, who it is shared with, and what you can ask me to do about it. If anything here is unclear, please just ask — my contact details are at the bottom.

Who I am

New Zealand Curated is a private guided-travel business based in New Zealand, operated by Matt Harris. I am the person responsible for the personal information collected through this website, and I am the person who reads it.

What I collect

When you make an enquiry

The contact form asks for your first and last name, email address and — if you choose to give them — your phone number, when you are hoping to travel, how long for, how many people are in your party, your preferred way of being contacted, and whatever you write in the message box. Only your name and email address are required; everything else is optional and the form works without it.

If you contact me by email, phone or WhatsApp instead, I hold whatever you send me in that message, along with your email address or phone number.

When you simply browse

Like almost every website, my hosting provider records technical information about requests — IP address, browser type, the page requested and the time. This is part of serving and securing the site. I also use analytics and advertising cookies, described under “Analytics and advertising” below.

Why I collect it, and what I do with it

Enquiry details are used to reply to you, to design and quote an itinerary, and to arrange and run your journey if you go ahead. That is the whole purpose. Specifically:

• I do not sell, rent or trade your personal information. Ever.
• I do not add you to a marketing list off the back of an enquiry. If I ever start a newsletter, it will be something you opt into deliberately.
• If you book, I will share the details necessary to deliver your trip — for example your name and dates with a lodge, or your party size with an activity operator. I share the minimum needed and nothing more.

Who else handles your information

Running the site and my inbox involves a small number of service providers. They process information on my behalf, under their own security and privacy obligations:

• Cloudflare — hosts the website and provides its security, including the anti-spam check on the contact form. Cloudflare sees the technical request data described above.
• Resend — delivers the contact form to my inbox as an email. Your enquiry passes through their system in transit.
• Google Workspace — hosts my email, so your enquiry is stored in my mailbox there.
• Google (Analytics, Tag Manager, Ads) — website analytics and advertising measurement. See below.

Some of these providers are based overseas, which means your information may be stored or processed outside New Zealand. I only use established providers who are contractually required to protect it to a comparable standard.

Analytics and advertising

This site uses Google Tag Manager to load Google Analytics, and it measures the performance of my Google Ads. These set cookies in your browser and record things like which pages you viewed, how you arrived, roughly where in the world you are, and whether you clicked to email, call, WhatsApp or submit the contact form.

What I see is aggregated and statistical — how many people did something, not who. The name, email address, phone number and message you type into the contact form arenever sent to Google. When the form records that an enquiry happened, it records only that one was submitted, from which page, and which contact method you said you preferred.

This site does not currently show a cookie banner, so these cookies are set when you arrive. If you would rather not be measured, you can:

• install Google’s official Analytics opt-out browser add-on;
• block or delete cookies in your browser settings, or browse in a private window;
• turn off ad personalisation in your Google account settings.

None of these will stop you using the site or contacting me — everything here works exactly the same either way.

Video

Videos on this site are hosted on YouTube and load only after you click play. Until you do, YouTube sets nothing. When you do play one, YouTube’s privacy-enhanced mode is used, but their own terms then apply to that playback.

How long I keep it

Enquiries stay in my email while there is a reason to keep them — an active conversation, a trip being planned, or a completed journey I may need records of. Where I am required to keep financial records for a booking, New Zealand law sets that at seven years. Analytics data is retained by Google on their own schedule and is not personally identifiable to me. You are welcome to ask me to delete your enquiry at any time.

Keeping it secure

The site is served over an encrypted connection, and the contact form is protected against automated abuse. No system is perfectly secure, but your information is not left lying around: it goes to my inbox and stays there.

Your rights

Under the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020 you may ask me what personal information I hold about you, ask for a copy of it, and ask me to correct it if it is wrong. Just email me and I will respond as quickly as I can, and within 20 working days as the Act requires.

If you are contacting me from Singapore, Malaysia, the European Union, the United Kingdom or elsewhere with its own privacy laws, you may have further rights — including asking me to delete your information or to stop using it. Ask me and I will honour the request; I have no interest in holding data you would rather I didn’t.

If you are unhappy with how I have handled your information, please tell me first so I can put it right. If we can’t resolve it, you can complain to the New Zealand Office of the Privacy Commissioner at privacy.org.nz.

Children

This site is aimed at adults planning travel. I don’t knowingly collect information from children. Families are very welcome on my journeys — in that case it’s the parent or guardian booking, and I only need the party details necessary to plan the trip.

Changes to this policy

If I change how information is collected or used, I will update this page and the “last updated” date at the top. Material changes will be obvious rather than buried.
